Keyboarding with Speed and Accuracy

posted in: Courses, Technology 0

This course, as the name may suggest, aims to improve the typing speed of whoever chooses to take said class. The end goal of the class is to improve your typing speed and be able to copy a paragraph of material at a speed of 30wpm or more with fewer than 2 spelling mistakes.

If this class does truly want to improve your typing speed, then it should aim for a benchmark higher than 30 wpm.  The reason I feel this way Is because at 30 wpm you are 5 times slower than the average person talks, while this may not be an amazing benchmark even just hitting 60 wpm you are now able to take notes close to perfectly while someone talks about something they are explaining. This has helped me majorly through high school and college as it is nice to be able to take notes while someone is talking instead of trying to remember that information while playing catchup.

This is the result of a 1-minute test in which I would argue I did at least one or two paragraphs. This skill at typing is not impossible for someone to reach, in fact I would argue for a 5-credit class took about as long as should be expected. Therefore, I feel that the credits earned for the Keyboarding with speed and accuracy class should either raise its expectations or lower its credits received.
