Introduction to MS Word

posted in: Courses, Technology 1

This course aims to help students learn the more complicated nature of MS word, such as formatting. It also hopes to help students in both personal and professional settings. During the class you should be able to be Microsoft word certified.

I believe this class could be extremely useful, however it suffers from the same symptoms as a lot of lower-level business classes in that it would be better suited to a high school environment. Along with this it should not be worth 5 credits as it feels like a crime to have such a high credit amount for a class teaching you Microsoft word, one of the most user-friendly applications to exist.

Even the home page, the page with possibly the most important information is extremely obvious on what does what. Near the bottom you can search for a previous word you have made, this could be helpful if you need to retrieve a file or simply need to update an old word. At the top you have various layouts, the one used most empty on the far left and then various other layouts. All these things are clearly labeled and easily understood within 5 minutes of using the platform. I understand why some people would take this class however I feel it gives far too much credit for the things it is trying to teach you.

This class is great for those who are not use to working on MS Word! Especially for those who recently graduated high school. MS Word can be challenging to use especially for students that experienced Google docs during their entire schooling. This class can certainly give students the confidence and steppingstone to succeed in navigating MS Word!
