In the Introduction to MS Word class, students are taught how to use MS Word and the various situations that the software can be applied to. Some of the word processor’s features that students will learn about in this course include formatting text, sharing a document to allow it to be edited by others, and a tool that checks for proper spelling and grammar. Between one and five credits are earned after one completes this class.

The main subject of this course, MS Word, is a word processing program from Microsoft that allows the user to write documents for a number of different purposes. They can range from personal projects like stories about fictional worlds to documents created for work like recording how much money the company made in a fiscal year.

One student current enrolled at LCC has plenty of experience using a word processor, though it is not MS Word. Their software of choice is Google Docs, which is very comparable to MS Words in terms of features. One area that the former’s features are limited versus the latter is in essential features for editing documents and options for template bases to use. That said, the student still uses Google Docs due to their familiarity with it.
